New Writer in da House!

Hi folks, my name is Patti Fitchett and I am the newest Writer-In-Residence hired by the Racine Arts Council. Full disclosure: I am a Kenosha girl.

For those of you still reading, (the Racine-Kenosha rivalry is deep with some people!) I am thrilled to continue to be a part of the arts scene in downtown Racine. As a long-time performer and member of the Over Our Head Players, I have been a supporter of bringing art to 6th Street for years. In my newest role (see what I did there?!) as Writer-In-Residence, I hope to learn more about Racine and Kenosha arts and share some stuff with you all here in my weekly blog. Would love to hear about your event, group or class so I can lead folks your way.

Some of the things I hope to do during my residency are to meet with many of you. My background is that I am a licensed funeral director and funeral officiant. My passion is to help people to remember their loved ones in a way that is respectful, unique, and joyful. To that end, I will be holding workshops and discussion groups at the Racine Arts Council office (409-6th St. Racine). Topics may include “Writing an Obituary” “Writing a Eulogy” “Crafting a Unique Memorial Service” and “Talking About Death and What You Want Without Scaring Your Family”.

As you can probably tell here, my writing is always a little comic, even when I am talking about serious issues. That is due to my belief that joy and grief are a package deal if you are living a life worth living. I look forward to many conversations with you all around this topic.

Thank you to all of the former Writers-In-Residence! I could not have been more fortunate to meet such a smart and groovy bunch of writer chicks! Thanks pals!

See you next week!
