- Call – Don’t Dis Me, Theme of the Month
- Response – Musings on Ah! Nobody’s Perfect
- by Mimi Peterson
Follow the OBSERVATIONS cycle to discover the theme of the month – Don’t ‘Dis’ Me. At a time when our sensibilities are defined by the rhythms and rimes of propaganda’s immediacy, we, instead, turn our concentration toward disabled people. By removing environmental and social barriers that contribute to mental and physical incapacity, we ratify a place in society for the Other – those people that are in between dis and abled, along with dissimilar, deprived, and discarded. My musings continue to explore variations on Nobody’s Perfect.
Ah!
The yelling downstairs continues,
He says, "I'm sorry. I take the blame, O.K.? Now be quiet!"
The child implores, "Where's Mommy?"
Barely audible, "Ah! means "I am ...here".
Monosyllabic brute sounds,
An abnormal normal 21st century idiom,
The language of media influencers, politicians,
Angry people all, at liberty to gloss over our freedom.
Their native tongues, hybrids with synthetic meanings,
Compress word-forms, paint one dimensional images,
In search of identity, in praise of their mistakes,
Pretending brave feats for all human kind, while banning reality.
Others test lost time, wasted energy,
Distorted truths, contaminated by memory,
Unnoticed in the absurd Universe of Now,
Guilt blames denial, "Who's fault? Where is the child?"
The child, who plays with air and water, fire and earth,
Who rules be inventing moody, mythological games,
The 3rd culture kid becomes the downstairs man,
As he marks off 34 squares to yell, "I win".
Ah is silent for now.
